Premium handcrafted leather, meticulously vegetable-tanned to achieve a natural feel and durability, sourced exclusively from German tanneries.
All of the genuine leather used in NOHRD equipment is produced through a vegetable-tanning process with trusted German tanneries, carrying the 'Made in Germany' mark where manufacturing is governed by strict technical and environmental controls. Raw hides are stabilised using plant-based tannins extracted from bark, wood, and leaves, replacing chromium salts and heavy chemical processing characteristic of faster and more economical tanning methods. From soaking and liming to tanning, drying, and finishing, each stage meets ISO 9001-certified quality management system.
Whilst this methods is far more expensive to produce in comparison to chrome tanning, it produces leather with higher tensile strength, better elasticity, and greater skin tolerance, making it suitable for prolonged physical contact. The slower, more labour-intensive process also preserves the natural fibre structure of the hide, allowing it to age predictably and develop a durable, breathable surface, engineered not only for comfort on handles and bench surfaces, but for longevity under intensive use.
All leather is sourced exclusively from specialist tanneries in Germany, where production is subject to stringent regulatory oversight and technical discipline. These facilities combine traditional tanning knowledge with modern process control, ensuring consistent material behaviour, responsible sourcing, and manufacturing standards aligned with NOHRD’s celebration of European craftsmanship.
Our leather production is governed by ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management systems. This system ensures repeatable quality, material traceability, and dependable performance from raw hide selection through tanning and finishing, producing leather components that meet defined standards for strength, stability, and long-term use.
Vegetable tanning preserves the hide’s natural fibre structure, producing leather that remains soft, breathable, and responsive to touch. Free from aggressive tanning agents, the material is well suited to prolonged skin contact particularly for repeated training in fitness equipment. The leather's elasticity is preserved through the natural tanning process, ensuring durability over repeated use.
